1 arrested in APD investigation, Crime Stoppers fugitive still at large


riday morning at approximately 10:45 a.m. officers with the COPPS unit were in the 2600 block of Ridgemere looking for known criminals.

When officers arrived at the address they found a Dodge Stratus in the yard that matched the description of a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier this week. COPPS officers watched the vehicle to see if anyone got into the vehicle. Officers later observed 3 individuals go to the vehicle, when they spotted police coming toward them, they ran away.

COPPS officers were able to detain 2 of the suspects. One of the suspects was later released.

Larry Weldon Harvey, 38, had an outstanding warrant for parole violation. He was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

Upon further investigation, officers learned that Amarillo Crime Stopper Fugitive of the Week, Joe Don Watson, 35, was possibly inside the residence. APD SWAT officers searched the residence but they did not find Watson.

Watson is wanted out of Hutchinson County for parole violation on an original charge of felon in possession of a firearm and engaging in organized criminal activity.
