Small-Fry Fishing Tournament a success

Kids gather for 2010 Small-Fry Fishing Tournament at Lake Meredith

On Saturday, over 100 kids took part in the annual Small-Fry Fishing Tournament at Lake Meredith.

At nine, lures went flying as the announcement to start fishing was made. In minutes kids were running to the weigh-in table with bluegills and catfish they had just caught. The catfish measured up to 11 inches, with the bluegills a few inches behind.

Fishing was halted at 11:00, and kids and parents munched on free hot dogs and other snacks while waiting for the results of the contest.

This years turnout was the largest in recent tournament history. The 108 registered entrants, accompanied by family and friends, came from across the Panhandle, including Fritch, Borger, Stinnett, Amarillo, Stratford, Dumas, Panhandle, and Sanford.
