California woman eats three 72 oz steaks; sets world record

It's something you have to see to believe.

California resident Molly Schuyler, who weighs 124 pounds, scarfed down three 72 ounce steaks during the 72 Oz Showdown at the Big Texan steakhouse in Amarillo.

And that's not all she ate-- in addition to the steaks, she devoured three salads, three dinner rolls, three baked potatoes, and three shrimp cocktails.

She completed this amazing feat in just under twenty minutes.

Bobby Lee, who co-owns the Big Texan, says he's never seen anything like this in the restaurant's history.

"We've been doing this contest since 1960, and in all that time we've never had anybody come in to actually eat that many steaks at one time- so this is a first for us and after 55 years of it, it's a big deal," he said.

Schuyler competed against four groups of two- and none of them even came close to beating her.

This was a personal record for Schuyler, as she ate two 72 ounce steaks during the showdown last May.

A 72 ounce steak alone weighs four and a half pounds. Most people have trouble finishing a single one.

Schuyler wasn't fazed by the amount of food she consumed during the competition.

"[The steaks are] free so I'm pretty happy about that. Otherwise it'd cost me about three hundred bucks!" she said.

Schuyler ended up winning $5,000 for successfully completing the challenge.

Her accomplishment will be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.

She says she plans on making a trip back to Amarillo next year for another attempt at breaking her own record.
