The flu is creating a critical blood shortage in Abilene.

Hendrick Medical Center said the flu and other flu-related illnesses are keeping people from donating.

“Our need for blood has not slowed down,” said spokesperson Lynne Bruton. “Unfortunately, we are not alone and this is a nationwide problem.”

The Meek Blood Center is having three blood drives over the next three days.

Tuesday: 1-6 p.m. at the Brookshire’s in Eastland (111 N. Seaman St.)

Wednesday: 12-5 p.m. at McMurry University

Thursday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Lions Club building in Sweetwater (1510 Lamar St.)
