The assignment of a lifetime

Taking a trip out of state to cover a story is a coveted opportunity reporters campaign for. So, when I was given the chance to hop a plane with America Supports You Texas on the Texas Panhandle Honor Flight for three days in Washington D.C., I said yes without the slightest hesitation! However, it was not the trip, or the chance to see the sites that was so appealing, it was the veterans, my heroes.

Telling the stories of the brave men and women warriors who helped protect the country that I love, sounded like the story assignment of a lifetime!

My Dad, is currently a Colonel in the Army and just completed his third deployment in October 2010. I know what it's like to watch a loved one walk out the door, not see them for two years, the whole time worrying about their safety, and frankly fearing for the worst. The thought of bringing the bravery to light that it takes to risk your life for another, is truly amazing to me and something that deserves attention.

Steve Myers and I worked incredibly hard to tell these stories of the heroes who deserve our thank you and so much more. I hope you enjoy the series and I hope it reminds you why we are free, and how blessed we are in America.

Tune in November 11, Veterans Day on ProNews 7 at 10:00 to watch the first story in the series. Learn more about the Honor Flight Series.
