Bell wins Oklahoma's starting TE job

Some uncertainties have cleared up as No. 4 Oklahoma prepares to open the season Saturday against Louisiana Tech.

Blake Bell is the starting tight end after switching from quarterback, but he also could occasionally line up in the backfield. Stoops said the "Belldozer" package that has utilized the 6-foot-6, 260-pounder as a red-zone, short-yardage specialist will remain a part of the offense.

Bell also has been taking snaps as an emergency quarterback because Cody Thomas had a recent muscle strain, Baker Mayfield's eligibility is uncertain and coach Bob Stoops wants to redshirt Justice Hansen.

Jordan Evans is the starter at Frank Shannon's inside linebacker spot. Shannon, who faces a year-long suspension, isn't listed on the first or second team. He was the team's leading tackler last season.
